1. What to Do During a Febrile Seizure
Febrile seizures can occur in toddlers when body temperature rises rapidly. While frightening to witness, most seizures stop on their own within 2 to 3 minutes without causing long-term brain damage.
- •Gently place the child on their side (recovery position) to keep the airway clear.
- •Loosen tight clothing and remove eyeglasses or sharp objects.
- •Do NOT attempt to hold the child down or stop their movements.
- •Do NOT force anything into their mouth or try to hold their tongue.
- •Time the seizure and consult a pediatrician immediately once the episode ends.
